MARIETTA, Ohio — Crooked numbers are a good thing in baseball, especially if it's your team putting them on the scoreboard.

Marietta College (35-12) put up some big scores as the Pioneers eliminated Thomas More (33-16) from the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional at Don Schaly Stadium Friday (May 21, 2010). The Pioneers banged out 16 hits en route to a 16-4 victory. [Box Score] [Photo Gallery]

With the win Marietta plays Penn State-Behrend (31-16) in the final game of the day. The winner advances to Saturday and must defeat top-seed Heidelberg twice to advance the NCAA Division III Championship in Grand Chute, Wis.

Marietta scored four runs in the second, seven in the fifth and four in the sixth. The Pioneers tagged on another run in the ninth for good measure.

The bottom half of the Pioneers lineup did the most damage as the seven through nine hitters combined to go 7-for-16 with eight RBI and seven runs. Aaron Hopper (Wheelersburg/Wheelersburg) finished with three hits, including a double, triple and three RBI.

Jordan Grilliot (Brookville/Northmont) added three hits, a double, stolen base and three RBI, while Tim Saunders (Alliance/Alliance) had a single and two RBI.

However, it wasn't just the latter part of the order that inflicted damage on six Thomas More pitchers. Leadoff hitter Britt Meador (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) went 3-for-6 with two RBI and one run to improve his season average to .410. Center fielder John Snyder (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) chipped in with a single and three RBI, and Casey Levins went 2-for-5 as eight Pioneers recorded hits.

Marietta's pitching was also solid as Kyle Lindquist (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) (3-1) scattered five hits in five innings for the win. He did allow a three-run home run to Brandon Nutini in the second. Evan Brockmeier tossed the final four innings and allowed one run to earn the save.

The only Saints' hitters with multiple hits were Nick Zeiser (2-for-4) and Sam Schmeltzer (2-for-3). Patrick Allen also had a solo home run off Brockmeier.
