MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team fell to visiting Otterbein College 84-52 Wednesday (Feb. 17) night at Fenton Court. The loss dropped Marietta's overall record to 3-21 and 1-16 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Otterbein improved to 10-14 overall and 7-10 in the conference. [

The Pioneers could not overcome a 27.1% (16-of-59) shooting night against the visiting Cardinals. On the other end, Otterbein shot 50.7% (36-of-71) from the field en route to the 84-52 win. The Pioneers converted only 7-of-22 (31.8%) from behind the arc and 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the free throw line. The Cardinals hit 6-of-10 (60%) from long range and 6-of-10 (60%) from the charity stripe.
Marietta was led by sophomore
Rachel Jones (Dublin, Coffman) with 12 points and a team-high three assists. Senior
Whitney Swain (Belpre, Warren Local) chipped in with 10 points, while freshman
Chelsea Doutt (Cambridge, Buckeye Trail) had nine points in the loss.
Katy Miller led all scorers with 19 points and collected a game-high seven rebounds. Shea McCoy added 15 points, while Karli Volkmer added 13 points and a game-high four assists. Kristi Kotterman chipped in with 11 in the win.
The Cardinals held a 51-27 edge on the glass. Both teams committed 21 turnovers. Otterbein out scored Marietta 34-12 in the paint.
Saturday (Feb. 20) will mark the season finale for the women's basketball team as it will host Wilmington College at 3 p.m. It will also be Senior Day at Fenton Court, as senior guard
Whitney Swain (Belpre, Warren Local) will be honored before the game.
