MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College entered Wednesday (Feb. 10) night's Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball match-up looking for the season sweep of visiting rival Muskingum University. Muskingum (8-14, 3-12 OAC) led wire-to-wire against Marietta (3-19, 1-14 OAC). The Fighting Muskies forced the Pioneers into 14 first half turnovers, enabling them to enter halftime leading by 12 points, 41-29.
The deficit grew to 20 points on three different occasions before Marietta began to mount its comeback over the final nine minutes. Trailing 62-42, the Pioneers went on a 21-5 run to pull within four points, 67-63, with 1:32 to play in the game. Marietta, however, could not complete the rally and fell 73-65.

Whitney Swain (Belpre, Warren Local) paced all players with a game-high 17 points. Freshman
Chelsea Doutt (Cambridge, Buckeye Trail) added 12 points, while sophomore
Rachel Jones (Dublin, Coffman) and freshman
Danielle Lang (Lowell, Fort Frye) came off the bench to score 10 points. It marked a career-high for Lang, who entered having scored just nine points all season. In addition, junior
Mallory Hoff (New Metamoras, Frontier) finished with seven points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
Sydney Lapp and Hannah Nelso both scored a team-best 12 points for Muskingum. Amanda Dobbins added a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 16 rebounds. Traci Alt also pitched in with 10 points in the win.
Muskingum out shot Marietta 45.0% (27-of-60) to 39.0% (23-of-59) in the game. The Pioneers held a 40-36 edge in rebounding while committing 21 turnovers compared to the Fighting Muskies' 19.
Marietta returns to the court on Saturday (Feb. 13) afternoon when the Pioneers play their final road game of the season at Ohio Northern University. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
