MARIETTA, Ohio — Led by a season-high 15 services aces, the Marietta College volleyball team picked up its first Ohio Athletic Conference victory of the 2010 campaign by defeating visiting Wilmington College 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-23) Saturday (Oct. 16) afternoon at Ban Johnson Arena. [Box Score]

The Pioneers (8-16, 1-4 OAC) jumped out to big leads in all three sets against the Quakers (5-15, 0-6 OAC) and finished off their fifth three-set sweep of the year..

Sophomore libero #Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston)# led the squad's 15-service ace attack with a match-high six. Sophomore outside hitter #Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty)# and sophomore setter #Dana Miller (Frazeysburg/Tri-Valley)# both had three, while freshman middle blocker #Kathryn Hanssen# contribute two and junior outside hitter #Elizabeth Robbe (Crystal Falls, Mich./Forest Park)# added one in the win.

Hanssen paced the hitters with eight kills, while junior right side hitter #Meredith Storey (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls)# and Robbe both added seven kills. In addition, VanGundy and freshman middle blocker #Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) collected five kills in the balanced effort. Sophomore setter #Ally Jenkins (Twinsburg/Walsh Jesuit)# dished out a match-best 14 assists, while Miller handed out 13.

Braun anchored the defense with 10 digs and Miller had six. Marietta also produced five total blocks, including a pair of solo blocks from Storey, who also had two block assists.

Marietta is back in action Tuesday (Oct. 19) evening when the Pioneers visit Otterbein University at 7 p.m.
