Late Goal Dooms Women's Soccer in 2OT

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Marietta College women's soccer dropped a 2-1, double overtime Ohio Athletic Conference heart-breaker at Muskingum University Tuesday (Oct. 12) afternoon. [Box Score]

The Pioneers (2-10-2, 0-3-1 OAC) found themselves down early after the Fighting Muskies (2-12, 1-3 OAC) scored a goal in the fifth minute. Kaitlyn Matz finished the play with an assist from Megan Duke.

Marietta, however, battled back to tie the game at 1-1 when junior forward #Christina Tirpak (Galena/Olentangy)# scored an unassisted equalizer in the 62nd minute. The goal was Tirpak's second of the season.

Muskingum broke the 1-1 tie when Noelle Kleppel scored midway through the second overtime. Christine Ward and Raven Francis set up Kleppel's 105th minute goal with assists.

Marietta dominated the offensive possession by out shooting Muskingum 25-7. The Fighting Muskies only shot outside the first half was Kleppel's game-winner.

Sophomore #Kelly Sommers (Shaker Heights/Shaker Heights)# finished with one save in the loss.

Marietta returns home Saturday (Oct. 16) for a Senior Day match-up with OAC rival Wilmington College at 1 p.m. #Marsha Hupp (Katy, Texas/Cinco Ranch)# will be honored before the game for her dedication to the program for the last four years.
