Swain and Wilson score career highs in loss to Baldwin-Wallace

BEREA, Ohio — Senior Whitney Swain (Belpre, Warren Local) scored a career-high 19 points and freshman Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem, Monroe Central) finished with a game-best 23 points, but the Marietta College women's basketball team dropped its sixth straight decision with a 94-78 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) loss at host Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday (Jan. 2) afternoon. The Pioneers (2-9, 0-4 OAC) also received a double-digit scoring effort from sophomore Lizz Wilson (Ashtabula, Edgewood), who contributed a career-best 15 points, while freshman Heather Blair (Upper Arlington, Newark Catholic) pitched in with 9 points in the game.

Baldwin-Wallace (8-4, 4-1 OAC) was paced by a career day from Katie Heinlen. Heinlen finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Ariel Brough added 12 points and Jessica Carpenter had 11 points in the victory.

The Yellow Jackets led wire-to-wire. Baldwin-Wallace entered intermission on top 50-37. The Pioneers played the Yellow Jackets almost even over the final 20 minutes, as B-W out scored Marietta by just 3 points in the second half. The Yellow Jacket victory was key by their dominance inside. Baldwin-Wallace held a 38-26 rebounding advantage and out scored Marietta 48-32 in the paint.

Marietta is back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 6) night when the Pioneers visit Muskingum University. Tip-off in New Concord is slated for 7:30 p.m.
