Marietta women drop game to Otterbein

MARIETTA, Ohio — 4 Marietta College starters scored in double figures but it wasn't nearly enough against host Otterbein College in a 89-61 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) women's basketball loss Wednesday (Jan. 13) night at the Rike Center. [Box Score]

Freshman Heather Blair (Upper Arlington, Newark Catholic) scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Pioneers (3-11, 1-6 OAC) in scoring for the game. Sophomore Rachel Jones (Dublin, Coffman) followed with 13 points, senior Whitney Swain (Belpre, Warren Local) pitched in with 12 points and a team-high 8 rebounds, while freshman Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem, Monroe Central) had 11 points and 5 boards in the loss.

Otterbein (6-9, 3-5 OAC) was paced offensively with 20 points. Kristi Kotterman finished with 17 points, and Shea McCoy had 15 points in the win.

The Cardinals scored 25 of the first 32 points in the game to jump out to a commanding 18-point advantage with 7:17 to play in the opening half. Otterbein's lead remained in double digits the rest of the period and it entered intermission with a 44-29 lead. Marietta cut the lead to 9 points on 3 different occasions early in the second half before Otterbein steadily increased its lead to 28 points before the final buzzer sounded.

Marietta is back in action on Saturday (Jan. 16) afternoon when the Pioneers travel to Wilmington College for a tip-off at 3 p.m.
