BETHANY, W.Va. — The Marietta College women's soccer team wrapped up its non-conference schedule Wednesday (Sept. 30) afternoon with a 1-1 tie against host Bethany College.

The Pioneers (3-4-1) overcame a 1-0 deficit late in the game against the Bison (5-3-2) to send it into overtime. The two teams played two more scoreless overtimes before ending in a deadlock.

Bethany out shot Marietta 29-11 overall and 14-5 in shots on goal.

The match-up was scoreless until the 53rd minute when Cassie Spalding gave Bethany a 1-0 advantage with her 8th goal of the season. Julie Linenfeiser set up the score with a cross, and Spalding finished with a shot off the back post.

Marietta scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute when sophomore Christina Tirpak (Galena, Olentangy) set up Chelsea Hennen (Wheeling, W.Va., The Linsly School), who headed the ball past the keeper for her third goal of the year.

Pioneer sophomore Jennifer Wilder (Ashland, Ashland), making her second straight start in replace of the team's two injured goalkeepers, made 13 saves, while Bethany's Julie Brady made 4 in the game.

Marietta is back in action on Friday (Oct. 2) when it opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play at home against Heidelberg University. Action begins at 4 p.m.
