MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team closed out its non-conference slate with a 1-0 loss to visiting Hiram College Tuesday (Sept. 29) afternoon at Marietta Field. The loss dropped the Pioneers' record to 2-7-1, while the Terriers improved to 6-3-1. [

Hiram out shot Marietta 14-10 overall and both teams finished with 7 shots on goal. Neither team, however, could break through the other's defense until the Terriers scored the only goal of the day in the 61st minute. Petar Knezevic sent a pass to teammate Nick Gdanetz just inside the box. Gdanetz turned and fired a shot that found an opening at the opposite post for the goal, his second of the season.

Andrew Shannon (Cincinnati, Mariemont) made 6 saves in the game, while Hiram's Joe Tatum finished with 7 saves.
The Pioneers now turn their attention to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play, which begins on Saturday (Oct. 3) afternoon when Marietta visits Heidelberg University for a kickoff at 2 p.m.
