MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team extended its win streak to a season-long six matches and remained unbeaten at Ban Johnson Arena with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-19) victory over visiting Franciscan University Wednesday (Sept. 23) night. The Pioneers (11-3) have now won 18 consecutive sets during the win streak. [

Marietta's offense came out strong, setting the tone for the rest of the evening with a .357 hitting percentage in set one. While the Pioneers' hitting percentage dropped over the next two sets, their momentum did not as many of the backup players made the most of their opportunities on the floor.
Freshmen
Ally Jenkins (Twinsburg, Walsh Jesuit) and
Alex VanGundy (Powell, Olentangy Liberty) split time running the offense Wednesday. Jenkins led the Pioneers with 15 assists, 10 of which came in the opening set, while VanGundy collected 8 assists.
Freshman outside hitter
Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls, Kenston) paced the attackers with 7 kills, while freshman middle blocker
Sarah Campbell (Twinsburg, Twinsburg) had 5 kills and sophomore right side hitter
Elizabeth Robbe (Crystal Falls, Mich., Forest Park) added 4 kills. Marietta finished with 9 service aces, including 3 from sophomore outside hitter
Alex Weissling (Dublin, Dublin Scioto) and 2 from both VanGundy and senior libero
Becca Holzworth (North Olmsted, North Olmsted).
Holzworth once again anchored the defense with 21 digs. Braun and Jenkins aided the team with 12 digs and 9 digs, respectively. Marietta's front line produced 8 total blocks. Freshman middle blocker
Alexa Baudo (Mentor, Mayfield) had 2 solo blocks and 1 block assist, while sophomore middle blocker
Jessie Blackley (Aurora, Aurora), who saw her first action of the season, had 1 solo block and 2 block assists in the victory.
Marietta will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, on Saturday (Sept. 26) and Sunday (Sept. 27) for its final Ohio Athletic Conference tune-ups of the season. The Pioneers will play four matches at the Mount St. Joseph Tournament. They will kickoff the weekend with a match-up against Hanover College on Saturday at 3 p.m. and then take on Maryville College at 5 p.m.
