NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Marietta College men's soccer team closed out the Joe Pombriant Classic with a 1-0 overtime loss to Methodist University Saturday (Sept. 19) night on the campus of Christopher Newport University. [Box Score]

Marietta (2-5-1) had its offensive struggles continue against Methodist (2-5), as the team was shutout for the third straight game and the fourth time this season.

The Pioneers out shot the Monarchs 9-4 overall and 5-2 in shots on goal, but neither team could break through its opponent's defensive in regulation.

Shane Davis finally gave his squad the victory with an unassisted goal in the 100th minute.

Marietta's Andrew Shannon (Cincinnati, Mariemont) made 1 save, while his counterpart Kyle Beach had five in the game.

The Pioneers will look to snap their four-game losing streak when they play host to the College of Wooster on Tuesday (Sept. 22) at 4:30 p.m.
