LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Marietta College women's basketball team closed out its weekend at the Transylvania Classic with a 90-60 loss to Centre College Sunday (Dec. 20) afternoon. [Box Score]

Marietta freshman Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem, Monroe Central) continued to pace the team in both scoring and rebounding as she finished with a game-best 19 points and 12 rebounds in the loss, which dropped the Pioneers' record to 2-7. Sophomore Rachel Jones (Dublin, Coffman) contributed 14 points, senior Whitney Swain (Belpre, Warren Local) had 10 points and freshman Heather Blair (Upper Arlington, Newark Catholic) added 9 points in the game.

Centre (7-3) had 5 players reach double figures. Maggie Prewitt led the way with 18 points to go along with 5 assists, while Lauren Huter finished with a double double, scoring 14 points and adding 12 boards.

Centre used a 12-2 run over the first 4 minutes to take control of the game early. Marietta fought back to take 28-26 on a Blair three-pointer with 7:18 to play in the half. Another run, however, helped the Colonels enter intermission ahead 44-37. That late first-half run set the tone for the second half as Centre cruised to the victory.

Marietta connected on 19-of-47 (40.4%) for the game, including 9-of-14 (64.3%) from beyond the arc but could not overcome its 29 turnovers, which led directly to 40 Centre points. The Colonels shot 29-of-60 (48.3%) from the field, including 4-of-15 (26.7%) from long range. Both teams finished with 32 rebounds.

Marietta returns to the court on Thursday (Dec. 31) afternoon when the Pioneers play host to John Carroll University in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action at 1 p.m. Live Audio and Live Video will be available at http://pioneers.marietta.edu.
