The fifth-seeded Pioneers end the year 6-13-1, while the fourth-seeded Student Princes improved to 10-7-2 and advanced to take on top-seeded Ohio Northern University Thursday (Nov. 5) afternoon.
Heidelberg out shot Marietta 17-7 overall and held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The game was scoreless until the 75th minute. Grant Beck lofted a cross into the box, which was deflected but not controlled by Marietta's keeper. Jon Kijowski took advantage with a diving header into the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winner.
Marietta picked up its aggressiveness over the final 15 minutes but could not finish any of its opportunities and fell 1-0.
