PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Marietta College women's basketball team dropped its second straight game of the young season, as the Pioneers fell 72-39 to Case Western Reserve University Saturday (Nov. 21) afternoon on day two of the Ohio Athletic Conference/University Athletic Association Challenge on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University. Marietta (0-2) held its only lead after sophomore post
Lizz Wilson (Ashtabula, Edgewood) scored the game's opening bucket. Case Western Reserve (2-1) answered with a score of its own and took complete control from there. The Spartans steadily increased their advantage to 19 points in the first half before taking a 37-20 lead into the half.
The Case Western Reserve lead grew to as many as 37 points in the second half before time ran out and the Spartans claimed the 72-39 win.

Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem, Monroe Central) paced her squad with 8 points but hit just 4-of-13 from the floor. Sophomore wing
Rachel Jones (Dublin, Coffman) added 7 points, while Wilson contributed a game-high 9 rebounds in the loss.
Ashleigh Tondo paced Case Western Reserve with 13 points, while Evy Iacono added 12 points and Erin Hollinger contributed 11 points in the game.
The Spartans finished the game 25-of-54 (39.4%) from the floor, including 5-of-12 (41.7%) from beyond the arc. They also added 17-of-26 (65.4%) from the line and took advantage of 28 Pioneer turnovers. Marietta shot 13-of-50 (26.0%) from the field, including 1-of-7 (14.3%) from long range, to go along with 12-of-21 (57.1%) from the line. The Pioneers did hold a 40-39 edge in rebounding.
Marietta is back in action on Saturday (Nov. 28) when the Pioneers host Mount St. Joseph, Oberlin and Thiel in the two-day 25th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Tournament.
