ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team was officially eliminated from Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament contention with a 2-1 loss at Mount Union College Tuesday (Oct. 27) afternoon. Box Score]
Marietta took the lead in the 39th minute when sophomores
Jennifer Wilder (Ashland, Ashland) and
Tessa Harlow (Whitehouse, Anthony Wayne) teamed up for the second straight outing. The duo accounted for Marietta's lone goal in a 1-0 win over Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday but this time switched roles as Harlow helped Wilder put away her first career goal, which was struck inside the far post off a corner kick.
The Pioneers' slim advantage didn't last long after intermission, as
Kelly Aughinbaugh sent a shot over the keeper from 20-yards out for the equalizer in the 51st minute.
Aughinbaugh then gave her squad a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute when she received a through ball from teammate
Jennifer Sprandel and fired it past the Pioneer keeper for her second goal of the game.
Both teams finished with 15 shots overall and Marietta held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Senior
Jenna Freeman (Bay Village, Bay) made 5 saves in the loss. Mount Union's
Kaitlyn Mallernee made 8 saves in the win.
Marietta closes out its season on Friday (Oct. 30) afternoon when the Pioneers celebrate Senior Day against first-place Ohio Northern University. Kickoff at Marietta Field is slated for 4 p.m. Live stats will be available at
