Women's soccer defeats Yellow Jackets 1-0

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team picked up its second Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory of the season with hard-fought 1-0 win over visiting Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday (Oct. 24) afternoon at Marietta Field. The win improved the Pioneers' record to 5-9-1 overall and 2-5 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 6-10-2, 2-5 in league play. [Box Score]

Marietta out shot Baldwin-Wallace 6-3 in the first half but neither team could gain an advantage through the first 45 minutes.

The Pioneers broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute. Sophomore Jennifer Wilder (Ashland, Ashland) sent a pass that glanced off a defender and to the foot of classmate Tessa Harlow (Whitehouse, Anthony Wayne). Harlow, took one-touch before firing a shot past the keeper for the goal, her second of the season.

Both teams had opportunities to change the score down the stretch but Marietta prevailed 1-0.

Baldwin-Wallace finished with an 11-8  advantage in total shots and a 5-4 lead in shots on goal.

Pioneer senior Jenna Freeman (Bay Village, Bay) finished with 5 saves, while Yellow Jacket keeper Meagan McLaughlin had 3 saves.

Marietta begins its final week of the regular season on Tuesday (Oct. 27) afternoon when the Pioneers visit Mount Union College for showdown at 4 p.m.
