MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) decision to visiting Capital University in its Homecoming game at Marietta Field Saturday (Oct. 17) afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 4-8-1 overall and 1-4 in the OAC. Capital improved to 9-5-2 overall and 3-2 in the OAC. [

The Crusaders opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the contest with a goal from
Kaylee Phillips, who scored from the top of the box.
Kellie Gustin assisted on the play.
The Pioneers answered back with a goal in the fourth minute to knot the score 1-1. Senior
Christi Tims (Olmsted Township, Olmsted Falls) finished a shot in the right corner of the goal after a cross from sophomore
Christina Tirpak (Galena, Olentangy).
Capital regained the lead for good in the 16th minute when
Katie Robinson headed home a cross from
Natasha Ballard on a corner kick.
Tara Zimmer put the Crusaders up 3-1 in the 76th minute with a shot off a rebound inside the box.
Molly Sheils capped the scoring in the 82nd minute after a Pioneer turnover at the top of the box.
Senior
Jenna Freeman (Bay Village, Bay) finished the game with seven saves while her counterpart
Rose Bussey finished with four saves. The Crusaders out shot the Pioneers 17-10 overall, including 11-5 in shots on goal.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 21) night at Wilmington. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
