MARIETTA — Marietta College continued its impressive run, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against Tiffin on Wednesday, April 2, at Pioneer Park. The Pioneers took the opener 6-2 before securing a 12-5 victory in the nightcap, improving their record to a stellar 19-5-2 on the season.
In the first game, Jim Katschke turned in a solid performance on the mound, improving his record to 4-2. Katschke allowed just four hits and two runs while striking out two over four innings of work.
Sean Risley continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Eric Shoup matched Risley's hit total, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Mike Brandts showcased his extra-base power, contributing both a double and a triple to the Pioneers' offensive effort.
The Pioneers' bats came alive in the second game, powering the team to a 12-5 victory. Risley once again led the charge, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and two stolen bases. Scott McVicar added to the extra-base hit parade with a 2-for-4 performance that included a triple and an RBI.
Eric Shoup, John Sudges, and Brandts each collected two hits in the win, demonstrating the depth of Marietta's lineup. On the mound, Mike Kramer improved to 2-1 on the season, striking out four and allowing two runs in relief.
For Tiffin, Matt Hastings and Bruce Workman each went 2-for-4 in the losing effort.
