MARIETTA — Marietta wrapped up the OAC regular season with a perfect mix of strong pitching and overwhelming hitting.
On Saturday, May 9, the Pioneers swept rival Muskingum 11-1 and 31-2 at Pioneer Park.
In the first game, Mark Talarico went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double, while Dan Munday went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Steve Morman added a triple and two RBI.
Jerry Bishop scattered nine hits and struck out two while giving up one run to improve to 7-1.
In the second game, Marietta's bats were even more impressive as the Pioneers banged out 34 hits, including 14 in a 14-run first inning. Munday had a two-run home run and John Schaly belted a grand slam in the inning.
Schaly finished the game with four hits and five RBI, while Jon Shuler and Morman each had four hits. Talarico went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
John Burns improved to 8-0 after striking out six over five innings. Jim Kennedy pitched the final two innings. He allowed one hit and struck out three.
