WESTERVILLE — After a dominating performance in the opener in which Marietta won 18-7, the Pioneers were kept in check by Otterbein in the second game and fell 2-1 to the Cardinals in an OAC Southern Division doubleheader on Wednesday, April 1.
In the first game, the Etta Express banged out 20 hits as six Pioneers had multiple hits. Leading the way was Ken Lisko, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and a solo home run in the fifth inning. He also belted two doubles and scored two runs.
Marty Sberna, Dan Munday and Jon Shuler also had three hits each, while Jim Pancher and Tom Mohl added two hits apiece for Marietta (22-2-2). Steve Morman added a double and three RBI as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.
Steve Riley (2-0) picked up the win after throwing the final three innings of relief. He struck out four and allowed two hits.
In the second game, Otterbein pitcher Jeff Harper stifled the MC hitters by striking out five and allowing five hits. The lone run game on a Munday homer in the sixth inning.
Marietta starter Jerry Bishop was equally impressive on the mound, allowing eight hits. Doug Barr's solo HR in the second inning got Otterbein on the scoreboard first. The Cardinals added another run in the fifth when Randy Pontius singled home Dan Good, who led off with a double.
