LeClair, of Findlay, Ohio, played a vital role in the lives of many female athletes during her career at Marietta College. She was a major supporter of Title IX Legislation, which helped better opportunities for women's sports, and she was a leader of women's athletics at MC.
LeClair coached field hockey, basketball and tennis. Her records aren't impressive at first glance, but she fielded teams before women's athletics had recruiting budgets and when the Pioneers were forced to play against much larger schools like Ohio State, Dayton and Ohio University.
So LeClair's influence at Marietta is judged more on how she shaped the athletic teams and helped shine a positive light on the athletic teams at a time when many were learning to adjust to the rise of women's athletics.
"I'm happy I had the opportunity to meet and work with Vi, said Marietta College's Athletics Director Debora Lazorik. "She had the ability to keep the girls enthused at a time when that wasn't easy. The team could be 2-18, but she always kept things positive." LeClair currently works as an athletic trainer at the University of Findlay.
