Mulholland, a member of the class of 1985, earned two varsity letters in baseball. He was names first team All-OAC, All-Mideast Region, and All-American in 1983 and 1984. During Mulholland’s career at MC, the Pioneers won one OAC championship, three Mideast Regionals, and one national championship in 1983. Mulholland holds the MC record for strikeouts in a season with 122 in 1984.
Mulholland left Marietta after his junior year and was selected in the first round of the 1984 major league draft by the San Francisco Giants. He has spent eight seasons in the major leagues with the Giants, Phillies, and Yankees. Mulholland made national headlines on August 15, 1990 when he threw a no-hitter for the Phillies. Mulholland was honored in 1993 when he was named the National League’s starting pitcher in the All-Star game.
Marietta College and the City of Marietta honored Mulholland this past spring when the road the leads to Pioneer Park was named “Mulholland Drive.” Mulholland lives in Paradise Valley, Arizona. He has one child, Tyler.
