Barber was a three-year letter winner for the Pioneer baseball team and was also a two-time First Team All-American as a first baseman, making him one of only eight baseball players at MC to ever earn the honor more than once.
Although he was not part of a National Championship team, Barber did help lead Marietta to three Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships in 1987, 1988 and 1990, one Mideast Regional Championship in 1988 and a third place finish at the Division III World Series in 1988.
For his outstanding play on the diamond, Barber was awarded with several post season honors. In 1989 and 1990 he was a First Team All-OAC honoree, a First Team All-Region honoree and a First Team All-American. He also was named the Way-Weigelt Award winner in 1990, as well as being named the Jack Rafeld Most Valuable Player in the OAC.
Barber currently teaches Physical Education at Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Ohio. He and his wife, Sharon, have two children, Matthew and Molly.
