Marv McCormick, '58, brought a good jump shot and defensive skills to MC basketball (three letters) and power hitting to baseball (four letters).
His usual double-digit scoring and floor game were brighter moments during the three 'down" season (24 won, 37 lost) that followed Coach Bill Whetsell's basketball masterpieces of 1953-554 and 1954-55 (42-5 and two OAC titles).
Marv was a stalwart of four of Coach Don Drumm's last five Pioneer nines aggregate won-lost count of 34-25 included a conference-winning 12-3 in 1956. A shoulder injury negated a Pittsburgh Pirate tryout.
As a senior, he captained the hoopsters and won the annual Way-Weigelt Price for 'demonstrating qualities of scholarship, leadership, character, sportsmanship (and) athletics." He also received "Who's Who" student recognition.
Marv manages a Social Security branch in Bridgeville, P.a., and is active in his church.
