Kenton Charles "Carney" Tekulve, who graduated in 1969, is probably Marietta College's best-known athletic product as a result of his status as one of major league baseball's top relief pitchers. Tekulve, a three-year letterman in baseball while at MC, signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1969. He was called up by the Pirates from the minors in 1975 and now is second in all-time appearances for that club. Honored in Marietta "Kent Tekulve Day" in 1979, he continues to work with MC pitchers prior to the Pirates spring training each year. He lives in Pittsburgh.
