Simmons, a 1948 graduate of Marietta College, earned varsity letters in both basketball and baseball during his three years at MC. He lettered one year in basketball and three years in baseball. A member of both the M-Club and the Gold Key Club, Simmons is one of the only two catchers named on Don Drumm’s all time great baseball team, the other being Hall of Famer Wilbur White, ’14.

A Pennsboro, West Virginia native, Simmons served as a pilot in the Navy prior to attending Marietta. After graduating from MC he went to work in the cement industry, holding various positions with Standard Lime & Cement, Martin-Marietta Cement, Universal Atlas Cement, Lehigh Cement, and General Portland companies. He retired in 1985 as vice president and general manager of General Portland, Inc.

Simmons and his wife Sue reside in Riegelsville, Pennsylvania. They have four children, Kathy, Linda, Kenneth Jr., and Scott.
