Jimmie Hissam, '62. Shortly after entering Marietta College in the fall of 1958, Jimmie Hissam astounded the football world with an incredible rushing performance against Bethany College. Carrying the ball 22 times, he amassed an NCAA record-breaking 370 yards. He scored touchdowns on runs of 94, 54,49,43 and 8 yards, averaging 16 yards per carry. Ironically, this remarkable record was broken by teammate and charter MC Hall of Fame member Dallas Garber, who rushed for 373 yards in one game the following year. Jimmie was the first winner of the coveted "Dutch" White letter-sweater as the outstanding freshman football player.
He was a fixture on the football and baseball teams for all of his four years at Marietta, earning eight letters in the two sports. He was Ohio Athletic Conference honorable mention in football in 1958 and All-Conference shortstop in baseball in 1962. Jimmie is now a sales engineer for a machine tool company in Wheeling, W.Va.
