Pancher, of South Euclid, Ohio, arrived at Marietta College as a 5-foot-8, 160-pound infielder and left with two national championship rings and won a World Series MVP award. Pancher's Pioneer career is impressive for a number of reasons. He had friends trying to persuade him not to attend Marietta and when he showed up for the first practice, Pancher was one of more than 100 players trying to make the Pioneer squad. But his persistence paid off as he became one of the finest players to ever play for Coach Don Schaly.

"I wasn't a big person and people were telling me that I wasn't going to make it," Pancher says. "I knew it was going to be competitive, but I really felt like I was good enough to play at
Marietta. I just knew what I was capable of doing."

Pancher closed out his career with a .395 batting average, 213 hits, 196 runs, 131 RBIs, 11 triples and 136 walks. His senior season, Pancher was named second team All-American and first team Academic All-American. Pancher had a 3.45 grade point average at
Marietta and a 3.80 GPA while receiving his master's degree in Sports Administration/Management at Kent.

Since 1987, Pancher has been the Assistant Director of Athletics in charge of Athletic Facilities and Equipment at
John Carroll University. Jim was also inducted into the Cy Young Tuscarawas County Baseball Hall of Fame on Nov. 9, 1997. He was a three-time all-conference player and team MVP at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School.
