Brandts, of Holyoke, Mass., is still revered as one of Marietta College’s greatest power hitters. Brandts still holds four single season batting records at Marietta College and three of those are conference marks, including 24 home runs during the 1986 season.
He was named first team All-American in 1986 as the Pioneers won the NCAA Division III National title. He was first team all-conference in both 1985 and 1986 and made first team all-region in 1986.
Following the 1986 season, Brandts was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the ninth round. He played in the minor leagues for two seasons.
“This is something I was certainly hoping would happen one day,” he said. “When you play for the Marietta College baseball team you have to sacrifice a lot to receive a lot. I value that experience a great deal. The entire experience is a great memory for me and something I am looking forward to reliving.”
Michael is a QC manager and application programmer for Microcal Incorporated. He has been granted U.S. patents for work on the development of ultrasensitive scanning microcalorimeter in 1998. Brandts, and his wife, Kathy, have two children.
