Funke, a four year letterman in football and basketball, graduated in 1963 from MC and would go on to obtain three additional degrees. That year, the one-time holder of the OAC mark for career pass receiving, also received the coveted Way-Weigelt Award. This goes annually to the top senior male athlete at MC. After he left MC, where he also lettered on season in track, Harold served in the U.S. Army basketball championship teams in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
Following his discharge from the service, he obtained a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Forestry from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Eastern Michigan University.
Married and the father of two children, Harold is a Forester of the Lake Michigan Hardwood Company in Leland, Michigan.
