MacDonald, (Deceased), was the MC crew coach from 1929 to 1941—the first to hold such a position at the College. Crew at Marietta was a club and intramural sport until 1931, when MC entered intercollegiate rowing. His team had two outings that first season—a third place finish against Harvard and the University of Penn and a loss to the University of Washington by 1/5 of a second. His many accomplishments include the first win at the Dad Vail Regatta in 1934, and a third place finish in a contest between the University of Pennsylvania, University of Wisconsin, Rutgers, Manhattan and Rollins that took place on the Ohio River. In 1961, his wife, Naoma, christened a new shell that the crew team dedicated in his honor. Marietta College’s Varsity “M” Association honored him as well, created The MacDonald Cup for the school compiling the most overall points in The Mid-American Regatta.
Mac is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Mary C. Wulffleff, of Stuart, Florida, who will accept the award.
