E. DUDLEY HARRIS’ endeavors, spanning four sports at Marietta College and 14 varsity letters before his graduation in 1926, testify to his athletic ability in all four.
Harris, now a retired lawyer living in Palm Springs, Calif., was a four-year letterman in football and baseball, while earning three letters each in basketball and track.
A former resident of the Columbus area, Harris was a high school standout there in football and became one of MC’s greatest gridders, gong both ways at tackle. He was a member of the outstanding 1923 team that went 7-2, and was an All-American selection in his last two seasons.
A field events specialist in track, Harris was undefeated in the shot put, discus, javelin and hammer throw.
Following graduation, Harris turned down professional baseball offers from the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians, but did play profession football with the Portsmouth Spartans. He also did some high school coaching before completing law school and embarking on a successful career in the field.
He served more than 20 years as a district attorney in Ohio and Oregon and in 1948 became president of Nutra-Vita Food Supplement Corp. in Beverly Hills, Calif. He served in that position until 1955 when he became chairman of the board and general counsel. In recent years, he has been active in real estate developments in California and Oregon.
In addition to his AB degree from Marietta, Harris holds a law degree from Ohio State University and a doctorate from St. Andrews University in London, England.
