Doug W. Jones graduated from MC in 1972 after lettering four years with the football Pioneers. Selected as the most outstanding freshman football player and winner of The Dutch White Award in 1968, Marietta teams featuring Doug at linebacker posted eight shutouts, limited opponents to seven points or less on six other occasions and recorded twenty-three wins and just thirteen setbacks.
In Coach Don Schaly's opinion, Jones and Steve James (inducted into the MC Hall of Fame last year) were the top two interior linebackers to play for the Pioneers  in the past thirty-five years.

Also like James, Doug was the captain of the teams his senior season and also selected Marietta's Most Valuable Player in 1969 and again in 1971. His list of Ohio Athletic Conference Honors include being named Honorable Mention in 1968; First Team All- OAC in 1969 and in 1970 and Second Team All-OAC in 1971.

Originally from the Cleveland area, Doug and his wife, Claudia, currently reside in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with their three children; Brittany, Andrew and Kristi, where Doug is a Sales Engineer of W.L. Gore and Associates.
