Sowar, a native of Celina, Ohio, was a four-year letter winner on the Pioneer basketball team from 1962-66.
As a sophomore, Sowar was named Second Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) after averaging 21.8 points per game for the season. He followed up his second team honors by being named to the All-OAC First Team in his junior and senior seasons. Sowar also served as a team captain for the Pioneers during his junior and senior years.
Sowar was a dominant player for Marietta and over his four-year career accomplished a feat that few Pioneer players have done in the program’s 98-year history. He finished his career with 1,404 points and 1,335 rebounds. His 1,404 points ranked third all-time in 1966, but Sowar now stands at seventh on the career scoring leaders list.
Sowar currently serves as the chairman and CEO of Geomenon Incorporated. He and his wife, Karen, have been married for 33 years and have two children, Kristina and Andrew, who both currently attend the University of Colorado. He and his family reside in Boulder, Colorado.
