Coulter, of Columbia, S.C., helped rejuvenate the Pioneer football team during the late 1950s and early 1960s with his accurate passing ability. Coulter is still among the leaders in a number of passing statistics, including second in passing yards for a career with 3, 815. He was also an honorable mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection in 1959 and 1960.

“We broke a long losing streak in the first game I played in,” said Coulter, who is listed with class of 1961. “
Marietta College was a fun football program to be a part of because we played for the fun of it.”

Coulter, who was born in
East Rainelle, W. Va., earned four letters in football and one in basketball. He married his wife Sandra when he was a sophomore and his oldest son David Jr. had a chance to watch his father play a few games in 1960.

"I don't think he really remembers being there," Coulter said.

Coulter and his wife Sandra have been married for 38 years and they have three other children: Cami Coulter, Brie Bramlett and Kristen Paddock.

He worked for DuPont for 32 years and retired in July of 1994 while working as a Technical Manager in Transportation. He began his professional career in
Parkersburg. He is a member of the Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C.
