Drennen, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, was a member on two of Marietta College's greatest basketball teams. The former point guard helped the Pioneers go 21-1 in 1953-53 and 21-4 in 1945-55. Both squads won OAC Championships.
"I have some great memories about my playing career," said Drennen, who grew up in Marietta. "Those were some great teams that had some great players."
According to Don Drumm, Drennen made the longest shot in Ban Johnson Field House (55 feet 7.5 inches). Drennen also earned two letters in football at Marietta. "I am indeed honored to be inducted and also very, very surprised," Drennen said. "In my greatest dreams, I never thought it would happen."
Since leaving Marietta, Drennen has refereed high school and junior college basketball games for 15 years and he is a deacon in Parkview Presbyterian Church in Reynoldsburg. Drennen won an Industrial Resource Magazine 100 Award in 1971 for developing alloy for high temperature strain gauges for jet engines, while at Battelle Memorial Institute. He is currently a senior technical buyer with TOSOH SMD, Inc. in Grove City, Ohio. David and his wife, Dorothea, have four children, Charles Michael Drennen, Steven Eric Drennen, Dianne L.
