David Barton earned four varsity letters playing for legendary Pioneer skipper Don Schaly from 1977 to 1980. Following his time in the pinstripes, Barton signed as a free agent with the New York Mets.
As a pitcher for the Etta Express, Barton was named second team All-Ohio Athletic Conference, first team All-Mideast Region and first team All-American as a senior. He helped the Pioneers to OAC Championships in each of his four seasons.
During his career, Marietta made four appearances in the NCAA Mideast Region winning three regional titles. The Pioneers placed fourth at the Division III World Series in 1977 and were National Runner-Up in 1978 and 1980.
Barton led the Pioneers in strikeouts his sophomore and senior seasons. At the time of his graduation, he was ranked second on Marietta’s career list with 28 victories and 253 innings pitched. His 236 strikeouts was third best.
Barton graduated from Marietta with a degree in Accounting. He and his fiancé Dorothea reside in Pfafftown, North Carolina. Barton has two adult sons, Brian and Kevin.
