Settles, a 1976 graduate and Way-Weigelt recipient, was a two-sport standout at MC earning eight varsity letters, four each in football and baseball. He received the Dutch White outstanding freshman football player award in 1972. Settles went on to earn first team All-OAC quarterback honors and a junior.

On the baseball field, Settles was a member of arguably the best ever Pioneer pitching staff. He posted a 7-1 record with two saves and a 2.05 earned run average on the 1975 staff that included Neal Parsley and Hall of Famers Kim Stanbery and Duane Theiss. The ’75 Pioneers won both the OAC and NCAA Mideast Regional Titles becoming the first Marietta College team to advance to the College Division World Series, finishing second to Florida Southern.

Settles and his wife Cindy Schreiber Settles, a 1979 Marietta College graduate, reside in Marietta with their son Timm.
