Vazquez, of Berlin, Conn., is a former outfielder who was a four-year letterman for the Pioneers.  At the time of his graduation he was in the top five in career triples, runs scored, walks and hits.  He also received the prestigious OAC Branch Rickey Memorial Award for Player of the Year in 1980.  He was a first team all-conference selection in 1978, 1979 and 1980.

Vazquez was named first team All-American in 1980 as the Pioneers were runners-up at the NCAA Division III World Series.

“I regret not being able to win Coach Schaly his first national championship,” Vazquez says. “I had four wonderful years at
Marietta and it was honor playing for coach.”

Vazquez was also a second team All-American in 1979 when the Pioneers finished 40-6.

Following the 1980 season, Vazquez was drafted by the World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates.

“I’m so surprised to be able to join such great baseball players in the hall of fame,” he said. “To be included with the Kent Tekulve’s and Terry Mulholland’s is truly a great honor.”

Carl is the Director of Information Security Technology for Travelers Property & Casualty.  He also coaches Little League Baseball and Pop Warner football.  He and his wife Lisa have two children, a son and a daughter.
