Eggenberger, who is deceased, amassed nine varsity letters in three sports. He was captain of the Pioneer basketball team his senior season and made the All-OAC baseball team in 1926 and 1927.

Eggenberger, who was named on Don Drumm’s list of greatest MC baseball players, played professional baseball with the Columbus Senators. Once his athletic career ended, Eggenberger moved to
San Francisco where his two brothers lived. He worked for a large insurance company during the day and went to law school at night. He received his law degree from the University of San Francisco.

However, Eggenberger never worked as a lawyer; instead, he joined Toplis & Harding, Inc., an independent insurance adjuster that was retained to investigate and settle insurance losses for major American insurance companies. He moved up in the company and eventually became a vice president and director of the West Coast and
Pacific Rim offices. He became an expert on the movie business and handled a number of interesting cases that included films with stars like Clark Gable, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe. “I know Marietta College helped my father become such a great individual,” said his only living relative and daughter, Anne Zimmerman. “I think he would be honored, but also embarrassed by this because he was such a quiet man. I don’t think I could see him getting up in front of all of those people and accepting this honor.”
