Alton J. (Jake) Ball

Ball (Deceased), a 1935 graduate and a three-sport letterman during his college days. Jake earned three letters in football, basketball and crew. Captain of the Pioneer's football and basketball teams during his senior season, he also receieved All-OAC recognition in both sports.

After graduating from MC, he taught and coached high school football and basketball for seven seasons in Ohio, including a stint at his high school Alma Mater in Caldwell, Ohio. In 1941, Jake entered Hahnemann Medical College and after receiving his medical degree, he served as a Flight Surgeon for the U.S. Army Air Force from 1944-1947.

Following his duty with the military, he started a private practice in New Lexington, Ohio where he also served a number of years as Perry County Coroner. In 1963, Dr. Ball moved to Columbus, Ohio and for twenty years served on the staff of the Columbus State Hospital.

Jake is survived by two daughters and two sons, including Dr. Alton J. Ball, Jr. of Ft. Wayne, Indiana who will accept the award.
