Aaron Conte, who earned four varsity letters in football and one in lacrosse, was a member of the football team from 1993-96 and played lacrosse in 1997. He joins fellow teammate Chad Coning ‘97 (inducted in 2011) in the Hall of Fame. Conte led the Pioneers to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in more than 20 years and Marietta’s 15 wins in 1995-96 were the most since 1968-69. As a junior Conte set school records for completions (141), passing yards (1,834) and touchdowns (16) as the Pioneers finished 8-1-1 and ranked in the top-10 nationally. He earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in 1994 and 1995 and served as a team captain in 1996. While several of Conte’s records have since been eclipsed, at the time of his graduation he held the Marietta career records for pass attempts (775), completions (356), passing yards (4,820) and touchdown passes (30). Conte was equally impressive in the classroom. He was a three-time Academic All-OAC selection and twice was named to the GTE Academic All-District IV team.
Conte, who graduated magna cum laude with a degree in petroleum engineering, has worked for Chevron for more than 15 years. He is currently a drilling superintendent and has drilled wells around the world for Chevron. Originally from Greensburg, Pa., Conte was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers at Marietta and served as the vice president in 1996-97. He now resides in Houston, Texas, with his wife Helen and three children, Austin, Brooklyn and William.
