MARIETTA PIONEERS

Beren Tennis Center

Made possible by a generous financial donation from Robert M. Beren through the The Robert M. Beren Foundation, the Beren Tennis Center gives Marietta College one of the premier tennis facilities in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Beren Tennis Center features two batteries of four courts with a large area for spectators located between them. The courts run north and south, are enclosed by new fencing and include tour-grade nets and posts. The most exciting feature of the facility is the playing surface, which is the same surface that the U.S. Open is played on.

The eight courts are constructed in part on property donated by the Okmar Oil Company, which was a partnership of three Beren Brothers: Adolph Beren ’18, Israel Henry Beren '26 and Harry H. Beren. Robert M. Beren funded the new courts in memory of his parents, Adolph and Ethel Abrams Beren, and his uncles. In the central plaza of the new Center lies an obelisk, which memorializes members of the Beren family.

The Center opened in September 2002 for college classes and team practices and was dedicated on November 3, 2002. It is open to Marietta College students, faculty and staff.
