Marietta College Athletics

Senior libero Becca Holzworth (North Olmsted, North Olmsted) led the Marietta Volleyball team to a 5-0 record during its first week of the 2009 season. It is the Pioneers' best start since opening the 1991 season by winning their first six matches.

The captain appeared in all 19 sets over the five-match stretch and anchored the defense with a team-best 68 digs (3.58 dpg). Holzworth also finished the week with a .990 receiving percentage. Offensively, she added eight service aces and 11 assists in wins at Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) and against Bethany (W.Va.), Penn State-Beaver (Pa.), Franciscan and Washington & Jefferson (Pa.).

She was named the MVP of the La Roche Tournament after Marietta took home the title with a 4-0 record.
