Marietta women's soccer ends season with 3-0 loss at John Carroll
Pioneers tie for sixth place but lose tiebreaker and trip to OAC Tournament
Oct. 26, 2007
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — The 2007 season came to an end for the Marietta College women's soccer team Friday (Oct. 24) afternoon following a 3-0 loss to host John Carroll University at Don Shula Stadium.
The Pioneers entered the final day of their regular season needing a win or a tie to advance to next week's six-team Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament. Unfortunately, Marietta came away with neither and will be left out of the OAC Tournament for the third straight season, each time by the slimmest of margins.
Aleks Quenneville put the host Blue Streaks (6-9-3, 2-4-3 OAC) ahead 1-0 in the eighth minute when she scored off an assist from Elizabeth Daigler.
Quenneville came back seven minutes later to increase John Carroll's lead to 2-0. This time she was assisted by Cara Pizzurro.
Daigler capped the scoring in the 42nd minute when she scored off a pass from Caitlyn Wilson.
John Carroll out-shot Marietta 15-11 overall and 9-5 in shots on goal.
Helen Hetzel (Radnor/Buckeye Valley) make six saves in the loss, falling to 7-5-1 on the season.
Marietta finishes the season 8-8-1 overall and 3-6 in the OAC. This closes out the careers for six seniors, Colby Cardwell (Anchorage, Alaska), Kileen Lehman (Elyria/Elyria Catholic), Natalie Jackson (Circleville), Vanessa Nicholls (Cornwall, Ontario, Canada/Cornwall Collegiate), Marianne Siders (Belle, W.Va./Riverside) and Jenny Wickerham (Massillon/Jackson).
