MARIETTA, Ohio — Senior midfielder Vanessa Nicholls (Cornwall, Ontario, Canada/Cornwall Collegiate) had her hand in both goals Saturday (Sept. 22) afternoon as the Lady Pioneers defeated the Oberlin Yeowomen 2-0 at Marietta Field.

The win improves Marietta’s record to 5-2 and is its fourth straight victory. Oberlin fell to 2-5-1 on the year.

Nicholls and fellow senior Marianne Siders (Belle, W.Va./Riverside) assisted on the play. The goal was Martinez’s fifth on the year.

The 1-0 lead was extended when freshman midfielder Kaley Donovan (Canfield) put away a cross from Nicholls at the 61:19 mark of the game. It was Donovan’s first career goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Helen Hetzel (Radnor/Buckeye Valley) posted another strong performance in net, recording her third shutout and improving to 4-0 as the starter for the Pioneers. Hetzel finished the game with six saves, while Oberlin goalkeeper Grabinski finished with seven saves.

The Pioneers out shot the Yeowomen 14-10 and 9-6 with shots on goal.
