MARIETTA, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) annoucned its 2006 women's soccer Academic All-OAC winners Thursday (Nov. 16) afternoon, and Marietta College sophomore Jessica Martinez (Strongsville/Magnificat) earned recognition.
Martinez, who earned All-OAC honorable mention for the second straight season, played a key role on the 2006 women’s soccer team, leading the program in goals (7) and shots taken (51). She also tallied two assists this season while playing in all 19 games. Martinez now has 13 career goals and 29 career points, both of which are just outside the top five of Marietta’s all-time bests.
Off the field, Martinez maintains a 3.635 grade point average as a health science major. It is her first academic honor as a member of the Pioneers' team.
Marietta finished the year with an overall record of 8-5-6 and 4-2-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. For the second straight year, the Pioneers just missed a bid to the Conference Tournament with a fifth place finish. Marietta is expected to have eight seniors in 2007, as it attempts to move up in the standings and make another run at the OAC Tournament.
