No. 23 Otterbein scores in final minute of second overtime to escape with 1-0 win over Marietta
Pioneers fall to 0-1 in the OAC

Sept. 30, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta held No. 23 Otterbein scoreless over the first 109 minutes of each team's Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener Saturday (Sept. 30) at Marietta Field. Unfortunately, the Cardinals (7-1-2, 1-0 OAC) held the Pioneers (4-4-3, 0-1 OAC) off the board as well and scored a goal in the final minute of the game to escape with a 1-0 victory.

Otterbein, the reigning OAC champions, out shot Marietta 9-1 in the game. It was the final shot on goal by Sara Vasbinder that was the game-winner. Vasbinder got the ball inside the 6 in the final minute and, despite all of the traffic, found an opening and scored the goal, her second of the year.

The Cardinals controlled the ball for most of the game, mainly through its 17 corner kicks. Marietta had just one corner kick in the loss.

Marietta freshman Jenna Freeman (Bay Village) made eight saves in the game.

The Pioneers will return to action Tuesday (Oct. 3), when they visit Muskingum for a 4 p.m. OAC contest.
