Marietta
women's soccer team falls to host Wooster 3-0
Lady Pioneers limited to just four shots in the loss
Sept. 13, 2006
WOOSTER, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team ran
into trouble just as it got on the road to Wooster Wednesday (Sept.
13), and its woes continued once the game actually started, as it
suffered a 3-0 loss to the Fighting Scots.
The Pioneers (2-2-2) had their trip delayed when something on their
bus malfunctioned, causing a small fire to ignite just north of
Marietta on Interstate 77. No one was hurt, and the squad continued
its trip once a replacement bus arrived.
Marietta managed just four shots in the loss, while Wooster (4-1)
totaled 30 in the match, which was hampered by rain for most of
the first half and wet, sloppy field conditions throughout the evening..
Winnie Adrien got the Fighting Scots on the board
with a goal in the seventh minute, her sixth of the year.
Wooster made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute, when Chelsea Happ
scored on a header.
The Fighting Scots completed the scoring in the 58th minute, when
Kerry Melenovsky found the back of the net.
Marietta freshman goalkeeper Jenna Freeman (Bay
Village) finished with 12 saves in the loss.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back when they return to action
Saturday (Sept. 16). Marietta will host Rio Grande, led by former
standout Amber Oliver '02. Kickoff is slated for
4 p.m. on Marietta Field.
