Marietta's Freshmen/Novice 4+ competes at Dad Vail Championship
Lady Pioneers take fifth in opening heat and do not advance to semifinals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Marietta College women's crew, enduring a last-minute schedule and lineup change, closed out its 2008 season with its Freshmen/Novice 4+ participating in the Dad Vail Rowing Championship on Friday (May 9) morning.

The Pioneers, who were originally slated to race their Varsity 8+ at the East Coast Athletic Conference's National Invitational Rowing Championship, took fifth in their heat at Dad Vails and did not qualify for a semifinal on the Schuylkill River.

The Pioneers, under the guidance of Head Coach Kelly Harris and assistant Chase Graham, featured bow Lauren Yanko (Akron/Archbishop Hoban), Michelle Tarracciano (Williston, Vt./Champlain Valley Union), Megan Stuhlfauth (Hainesport, N.J./Merion Mercy Academy), stroke Yolien Peeters (Cranberry Twp, Pa./Seneca Valley) and coxswain Stockard Hyjek (Leetsdale, Pa./Quaker Valley). Marietta rowed to a fifth place finish in its opening heat after crossing the line in 8:19.621. Duquesne won the race with a time of 7:28.332. North Park also advanced to the final after taking second with a time of 7:38.542.
